Chapter 13:  Council of the M’yerter

“I call to order this meeting of the M’yerter,” Morrigan began.  “As you all know there is a prophecy handed down from a vision of Eir that the daughter of Raelin would bring destruction to all she touches.  So far we have kept Athine occupied; however, now that she has realized what her full powers are we must have a plan of action.”

“Morrigan is correct,” Andraste began, “the child is more powerful than any immortal we have encountered before.  She does not need to cast to get her magic to work.  She is in full command of it.  She has the ability to wound and probably kill immortals.”

“She also has a Ser‘urn‘el.  The weapon we took to her for her trials was forged here.  It was kept safe for hundreds of years waiting for the right person.  When the girl named her weapon, it told her to call it Sayel,” Sabrina added.

The room filled with hushed gasps and murmured comments.  The name Sayel had not been heard for many centuries.  The fact that this weapon said it was Sayel meant it was truly either her or a trick.

Eir questioned, “How can Athine have a weapon named Sayel when it is predicted that she will be the one to release the evil spirit that Sayel chased off all those eons ago?  Why would Sayel allow herself to be claimed by Athine if she were going to destroy the world?”

Morrigan replied, “It is an omen that things are going to decline very quickly.  I think the only thing we can do is keep Athine here until further notice.  She will not be able to go back to Olympus to find the spirit and release it.  If she can’t find it, then she will not be able to fulfill her proposed destiny.”

“Then it is decided, Athine will stay here until further notice. She is not to return to Olympus,” Raelin agreed.

Just then, the stone doors to the chamber flew open and a disturbed looking On’ale stumbled into the room.  “I am sorry to interrupt, but I have some bad news.  Athine is gone.  I had taken her to see the grotto and we were attacked by some kind of water demon.”  On’ale recounted the incident in the grotto to the M’yerter.

“I am sorry my Queen, but I was knocked unconscious by this demon and when I awoke Athine was nowhere to be found.  It is like she has disappeared from Ximira.”

Morrigan nodded sadly, “And so it begins.  I had hoped that it would not come to this.  The prophecy is coming true.  We must ready ourselves for war with our ancient enemy.  Athine will release the evil spirit of Kinir.”
