Pom-Poms
1. Cut a 1-inch disk of felt. Place inside hat at desired spot for pom-pom.
2. Thread one tail of pom-pom onto a sewing needle, and stitch through hat and disk. Repeat with second tail. Tie tails tightly, using a square knot.
3. Optional: Repeat steps 1 and 2 for teddy-bear ear pom-poms.

Braided Pom-Poms
1. Tie off three pom-poms with strong thread, leaving 3- to 5-inch tails.
2. Cut three 30-inch pieces of yarn. Double-knot one set of pom-pom threads around middle. Clip off excess thread. Repeat for other two pom-poms.
3. Knot yarn strands together. Divide into three and braid; push end of braid through top of hat. Triple-knot to secure.

Duplicate Stitches
1. This technique is best for stripes or monograms. Thread a darning needle with contrasting yarn. From inside of hat, push needle through base of stitch you’re duplicating. Pass needle from right to left behind stitch directly above (A).
2. Insert needle through starting point, and back through base of next stitch up (B).
3. Fill in desired pattern (C). Stitches should be taut but not tight.
