How TO
EMBROIDER A BLOUSE

A plain button-front shirt is instantly personalized when embroidered with a subdued “hi,” as in this back-to-school icebreaker. Or skip the salutation and stitch your child’s first initial instead.

A dotted-line fuchsia makes the letters pop.

  1. 1. See template (page 381). Using a pencil and transfer paper, transfer it onto front of shirt.
  2. 2. Cut a 3-inch piece of backing (if using), and adhere to inside of shirt, behind tracing. Attach hoop to shirt.
  3. 3. Thread two strands of pink embroidery floss onto needle. Sew a running stitch across middle line. With four strands of blue floss, backstitch thicker top and bottom lines.
  4. 4. Using four strands of “pen”-color floss, backstitch to sew letters.
