1 Kings 12:1-33

Rehoboam’s threat of heavier burdens caused a rebellion and divided the nation. Rehoboam ruled the southern kingdom; Jeroboam ruled the northern kingdom. Jeroboam set up idols in Dan and Bethel to discourage worship in Jerusalem. At the same time Syria, Ammon, Moab, and Edom claimed independence from the divided nation.
