Words to Treasure
In those days, I will pour out my Spirit on my servants. I will pour out my Spirit on both men and women.
Acts 2:18
Girls can’t be heroes.” Randy said it as if it were a fact. He adjusted his snow goggles while he sat on the chair lift.
“Excuse me?” Amy couldn’t believe what she was hearing.
Alex shrugged. “He’s right.”
Amy shoved her hands in her jacket pockets. “He is not.”
Randy started to rock the chair. “Women are weak and scream all the time. Heroes don’t scream.”
Alex nodded. “He’s right.”
Amy held onto the swaying chair. Randy continued to swing the chair. “Scared yet, Amy? Going to scream?”
“Yes,” she said as she adjusted her helmet in frustration. “I’m sitting with gorillas.”
Heroes come in all sizes and sexes. It might surprise Randy that the Bible is full of female heroes. God uses both men and women to change the world and spread his word. So move over Samson, Gideon, and Joshua and make room for women such as Esther, Miriam, Mary, and Deborah, to name a few. Check out their stories in the Bible. There’s nothing weak about them.
Did You Know?
Did you know that a woman named Deborah was a wife, a prophet, and the leader of Israel? Not only did she lead an army against a bad-news Canaanite general named Sisera, but with God’s help and her strong leadership, Israel beat him fair and square. Women heroes — God’s got them covered. (See Judges 4:1 – 23.)
