Words to Treasure
Brothers and sisters, don’t ever get tired of doing the right thing.
2 Thessalonians 3:13
Jordan was exhausted from the long hike, but he stopped short at the edge of the parking lot where they had left their car. Their car was rocking back and forth as a fat black bear was halfway into their destroyed front window. Each move of his back legs scratched more paint off the car.
“Oh, no!” His dad took off his backpack.
“Dad.” Jordan watched the bear disappear inside their car. “He’s trashing our car. Shouldn’t we go scare him away?”
“No, it’s safer to wait here until he’s done.” His dad took a photograph. “We’re going to have one good story to tell when we get home.”
“But Dad.” Jordan watched as the bear pulled himself out of the window. “We didn’t leave any food in the car. We did everything right.”
“I know. But some people do leave food in their cars and that attracts bears.” His dad dialed his cell phone. “Hello, I’d like to report a bear breaking into cars. Thanks, I’ll hold. No, we won’t go near the bear.”
Sometimes even though we do everything right, things can still go wrong. Life’s like that. Just keep doing what’s right even when things go wrong. Doing right is always right.
Brown bears were pretty common in ancient Israel. When King David was a shepherd, he protected young lambs from hungry bears.
