Take My Advice

Words to Treasure

Plans fail without good advice. But they succeed when there are many advisers.

Proverbs 15:22

The boat was bobbing in the current and drifting down the slow, lazy river. Leo was getting a little nervous while his grandfather tried to fix the boat motor. “Grandpa, have you tried — ”

Grandpa snapped back, not letting Leo finish. “Don’t tell me about motors. I know everything about motors.”

“But Grandpa . . .” Leo tried to talk again but got a big grumpy “Ssssssshhhhhh!” from the older man. It was growing too dark to be out on the water. “Grandpa, would you listen to me one minute?” Finally, Grandpa turned around and listened. “Did you check the gas tank?” Leo asked.

“Of course, I checked the — ” Grandpa stopped short. He tapped the gas gauge and then opened the tank and stuck a rod in it. He pulled it out and examined the gas level. Empty. The gas gauge was broken. They put more gas in the tank and were soon heading for home. Grandpa chuckled to himself. “I guess I should listen to my grandson more often.”

Always remember that even though you’re young, you have important things to say.

A great general named Naaman was very sick, but he was smart enough to listen to the advice of a young slave girl. She told him to go visit a prophet to get healed. She was just a slave girl, but her advice came from God. Naaman was healed because of a girl with good advice.
