Words to Treasure
But anyone who lives by the truth comes into the light.
John 3:21
Stacy showed her mom the party invitation. Brittany was having a fortune-telling birthday party. A lady would be there to tell their fortunes, and then they would play with an Ouija board, a game that asks spirits to talk to you through a board with numbers and letters. All the birthday guests were supposed to come dressed up like fortune-tellers or ghosts. These were all things that Stacy knew that she should avoid. She was disappointed not to go to the party, but she wanted to do what was right.
Fortune-telling, practicing spells, playing with Ouija boards, and doing séances are all things we should stay away from completely. They are not cool or fun but connected to dark things. Jesus talked about being a godly light to everyone around you. That makes God proud. So dark is out, and light is right.
Live It!
Here’s a list of things God hates and doesn’t want you to do:
• Don’t practice evil magic.
• Don’t use magic to try to explain warnings in the sky or other signs.
• Don’t worship evil powers.
• Don’t talk to dead people.
It’s fun to do scary things like going to a suspenseful movie or riding a roller coaster. But trying to get scared by doing wrong things is clearly off limits. Go ride a roller coaster instead. (See Deuteronomy 18:9 – 12.)
