Words to Treasure
Why are you coming to me only when you are in trouble?
Judges 11:7
Savanna hiked all the way up to her grandmother’s cabin. Her grandmother was wise. Whenever she had a problem at school or at home, Savanna would hike to her grandmother’s cabin and talk to her about it. Savanna knocked on the door, and her grandmother answered it.
Savanna burst inside and fell into a chair in an unhappy heap. Grandmother sat down by the fire. “Something wrong, Savanna?”
“Yes! My BFF doesn’t understand me. We had this terrible argument — ”
“Wait!” interrupted her grandmother. “I’m not hearing problems today.”
“What?” Savanna didn’t understand.
“Savanna, the only time you come to visit me is when you have a problem. It would be nice if you came here just to visit me.” Savanna’s mouth hung open, confused. “So if you would like a cup of tea and some cookies, we can have a nice, normal visit. If you like, you can come back tomorrow and we’ll talk about this BFF problem then.”
God, your friends, and your family don’t want to be your personal problem-solvers all the time. If you only talk to them to complain about life, that’s not fun for them. Sometimes a visit should be just about spending time together.
Did You Know?
Speaking of wise, did you know that Solomon was both the richest and wisest king on earth and that people came from all over the world just to hear him talk about wise stuff?
