Words to Treasure
Anyone who welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me.
Mark 9:37
Patrick and Desmond were watching their dad put together the baby crib in Desmond’s old room. The boys weren’t sure if they liked this idea or not. Desmond sat on the rocking horse, which was way too small for him now. “Will he cry a lot?”
Their dad was crawling around under the crib, looking for his wrench. “I suppose so. Babies cry.”
“A lot?”
Their dad leaned back against the wall. “Yes, a lot. You boys still good with this? Getting a foster baby?”
Desmond sat against the wall next to his dad. “Will he spit up all over everything? Buckets of baby vomit everywhere?”
“Gallons,” his dad said as he passed Desmond a wrench. “Tighten that side, will ya? Patrick, hang on to it here so it doesn’t come apart.” Desmond and Patrick went to work.
Many families all across the world have made the choice to open their homes to a child who needs a family to love and care for them. It isn’t just that kids need foster moms and dads. They also need foster brothers or sisters. You can be a hero to someone who needs somebody like you to be part of his or her family for a long time or short time.
