Courage

Words to Treasure

Be strong and very brave.

Joshua 1:9

Fern walked into the hospital with shorts on. After her surgery, it had taken her a long time to dare to wear shorts. But now she didn’t care. She peeked around the corner to see a little girl in a big bed. Fern walked in with a warm smile. “Hi, I’m Fern.” The little girl stared at Fern’s artificial leg. Fern knocked on her leg with a shrug. “I lost my leg to a disease. I heard you had an accident.” The little girl nodded shyly. “Pretty soon you’ll be getting a leg like mine — a prosthesis. Big word, huh?” The little girl nodded again. Fern sat softly on the bed. “I do all kinds of stuff like rock climbing and snowboarding. It will be okay. I’m going to visit you lots until you’re completely sick of me.” The girl smiled.

Fern is a special kind of hero, somebody who has faced a really tough situation and has decided to help other people face the same kind of challenges. She wasn’t going to let losing her leg stop her. Life is full of all kinds of challenges. How we handle them is what makes us heroes.

People in Bible Times

Joshua was taking God’s people into the Promised Land, and there would be hardships and huge battles to fight. God just kept telling Joshua to be strong and brave. And do you know what Joshua told his people? You guessed it. Be strong and brave. So whatever situation you face, be strong and brave. Pass it on.
