Love never fails.
1 Corinthians 17:6
Amber hit the choppy wave and suddenly lost her balance. She did a face-plant into the water, and that sent water right up her nose. Her water ski came off, and soon she was just floating, snuffling to get the water out of her nose, waiting for the boat to circle around. Her stepmom pulled alongside. “Okay, that’s it for the day. You’re too tired to keep skiing.”
“Come on, just one more, please,” Amber pleaded.
“Nope.” Her stepmom caught up the floating ski. “In the boat. Now, please.”
Amber reluctantly climbed up the ladder. “Okay.”
The Bible clearly says that we are to respect and obey our parents. And that includes stepparents. Nobody says that having a new parent in your life is always easy. It’s a whole new person you have to get to know, and it can be kind of overwhelming. But like a new friendship, getting familiar with a stepparent takes time — talking together, doing things together, and showing each other lots of respect both ways. Your stepparent can become a really good friend and parent if you’re willing to let them be a part of your life in a really real way. Give ’em a chance!

Although Jesus was completely the Son of God, he also had a very earthly adoptive father in Joseph. Joseph wasn’t Jesus’ “real” dad, but Jesus loved, respected, and obeyed him completely. (See Luke 2:41 – 52.)
