Why did you turn your back on what I told you to do?
2 Samuel 12:9
Abby knew she wasn’t supposed to go past the out-of-bounds markers, but the dunes looked so much better over there. Leaving safety behind, she went zooming up the side of a forbidden sand dune. She got to the top, only to find a big cliff-like drop-off on the other side. Her ATV was airborne and heading downward for a crash. She fell off her machine and lay on the ground, spitting sand. Rick sped over. She sat up and waved to show she was okay.
“Abby, you know you’re not supposed to be over here. You know better. What am I going to do with you?”
“Ban me from the dunes?” Abby felt her stomach drop, because she loved riding dunes. “I’m really sorry I let you down. I won’t do it again.”
Together they pushed her ATV out of the sand. “You’re a good kid and a good rider. You can spend the rest of the day helping me with the new riders. But do this again and you’re banned.”
Abby did something impulsive, but Rick understood she was sorry and she wanted to do better. If you do make a mistake, God may be disappointed but he still loves you because he knows your heart.
Incoming sandstorm! Yup, sandstorms were a problem in ancient Israel. Wind picked up and blew sand everywhere. Sometimes strong sandstorms looked like a solid wall of sand heading straight for you.
