Words to Treasure
“Blessed are those whose hearts are pure. They will see God.”
Matthew 5:8
What would you like me to do?” Holly really wanted to work at the petting zoo when she was older, but right now she was ready to volunteer for any chore at the zoo. The zookeeper thought about it for a moment. “The gutters in the barn could use cleaning out. It’s kind of nasty work, though.”
Holly’s friend Kerri did not look very happy. “Could we groom the ponies instead?”
“We’ll clean the gutters if that’s what you need done. Come on, Kerri.” Holly headed for the barn. The zookeeper smiled, impressed with Holly’s attitude.
Holly is what the Bible would call meek. That doesn’t mean timid and shy, which is how we usually think of meek. In the Bible, meek is being willing to serve God without complaining, doing whatever he wants us to do. No job is too hard or too small for the meek! Holly knows that if she works hard and proves herself in every task, good or gross, she’ll be the best zookeeper she can be in the future. We should have that same attitude with God. The mighty meek!
Did You Know?
Did you know Jesus was meek? He did everything that God told him to do, even to the point of dying on the cross for our sins. Jesus said, “I do exactly what my Father has commanded me to do.” So should we. What is God telling you? Talk with your family about it.
