Words to Treasure
“Blessed are those who make peace. They will be called children of God.”
Matthew 5:9
Henry was really mad, “You can’t have it both ways, Ryan. You have to pick. Who are you going to side with on this fight? Are you staying here with Trevor, or are you coming with me?”
Ryan looked from one friend to the other.
Trevor pushed the soccer ball around with his foot. “You’re either with me or against me, Ryan. This is war, bro. Pick!”
Ryan frowned deep in thought. “Okay,” he said, “this is my choice. Neither. You two are acting so lame. This fight is stupid. This is how it plays out. If the two of you want to be my friend, you’ll have to work out your differences and then call me.” Ryan walked away muttering, “Pick sides! You’ve got to be kidding me. This is war . . . this is crazy.” Ryan smiled, pleased with his choice. Trevor and Henry didn’t expect that move.
Jesus said that people who turn away from conflicts and help enemies find peace together are children of God. It isn’t enough for us to avoid fights; God also calls us to help others find peaceful ways to solve their differences. Peacemakers follow Jesus, the Prince of Peace.

God granted Solomon wisdom to rule his people. Isn’t it also interesting that during Solomon’s rule it was a time of great peace, happiness, and success? Making peace just might be a wise move.
