Words to Treasure
Practice and teach these commands. Then you will be called important in the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 5:19
Marianne and her friends were debating what movie they should see. All of her friends wanted to see a thriller, but Marianne had her little sister with her.
Her friend Cindy played with her ponytail. “It’ll be okay. She won’t get that scared.”
Marianne looked at her friends and then at her trusting little sister. “No, she’ll get scared. I’ll see you after the movie. We’re going to go see that new animated movie. You know, the one for kids.”
Marianne and her little sister settled into their seats when all of a sudden her friends piled in beside them. Cindy shrugged, “This sounded more fun.”
Not only should we do what’s right, but Jesus said we also have a big responsibility to teach others what is right. We set an example for other people including our younger brothers and sisters to follow. Did Marianne lead the right way? Jesus saw her actions as important. What do your actions say?
In Bible times, children mostly learned good examples from watching and working with their parents and other adults in their village. Girls learned how to run a good home from their mothers, and boys learned a trade from their fathers or were sent to learn a trade from a more experienced craftsman.
