Pearls of Wisdom

Words to Treasure

Do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they might walk all over them.

Matthew 7:6

Wendy was a bit shocked to see the entire gang she wanted to hang out with at the swimming pool. The group didn’t seem all that happy to see her. “I didn’t know you were going to be here,” said Wendy.

Fin shifted from one foot to another. “It was a last-minute thing.”

“I was hoping to see you at church Sunday,” said Wendy. “The car rally was great. Maybe you can come next time.”

“Maybe.” Fin was the leader of the pack. “We have to go. See ya.” The gang walked away whispering. Wendy felt her heart drop.

Her mom stood beside her. “Your friendship is a special thing, sweetie. Make sure that whom you try to give it to are people who will treasure it. They may be popular, but they don’t seem very nice.” Wendy thought about that.

Wendy had tried to share both her friendship and her church with people that, let’s face it, didn’t see value in either one. That stings. Jesus warns us to be very careful whom we give precious things to. Give it to the wrong people, and you get hurt. Pick friends who are eager to be your friend and want to share adventures with you at school, home and even church. Friends of value value you.

Discovering Archaeology

Pearls, in ancient times, were considered a symbol of wealth and fame. Romans really got into pearls. The oldest-known pearl necklace belonged to a Persian queen and is well over 2,000 years old.
