Words to Treasure
Won’t she search carefully until she finds the coin? And when she finds it, she will call her friends and neighbors together. She will say, “Be joyful with me. I have found my lost coin.”
Luke 15:8-9
Quincy dug like crazy in the sand. His grandpa had taken him treasure-hunting on the beach with a metal detector. His grandfather had found all kinds of old coins, war metals, rings, and things.
Quincy searched through the sand and pulled out a beautiful diamond ring. “Look, Grandpa Joe! A ring! Do we get to keep it? Maybe I can give it to Mom or Grandma. Or sell it and keep the money.” Quincy was all excited.
“First we put an ad in the lost and found. If nobody identifies it or claims it, then we can keep it.”
Quincy was disappointed. “But Grandpa, finders keepers.”
Grandpa put the ring in his bag. “Always remember that how you treat other people is more important than treasure.”
A few weeks later Quincy showed a lady the ring. She immediately burst into tears, she was so happy to have it back. She pulled out a hundred-dollar bill and gave it to Quincy. He looked surprised, but his grandfather didn’t.
Live It!
Next time you find something that belongs to somebody else (even though you may want it) make every effort to return it to the rightful owner. Doing what’s right is God’s kind of riches.
