Words to Treasure
Suppose you have not been worthy of trust in handling someone else’s property. Then who will give you property of your own?
Luke 16:12
Paxton was sailing on the lake. It was a great day! The wind was perfect, the sun was shining, and his small sailboat was sinking. Sinking? How could that be? Water was seeping quickly into his small boat. Then he remembered he had lent his boat to his friend Simon.
Paxton got on his knees and searched the floor of the boat. There it was: a big fat hole that was sort of, but kind of not — patched. Simon never told him he had damaged his boat. Paxton took out his cell phone. “Dad, this is Pax. I’m sinking. Do you think you could come out and tow me in? Thanks.”
Paxton took out a coffee can and started to scoop out the water. Lesson learned: never lend Simon your boat — ever.
So how responsible are you? Can people trust you to take good care of their things? Putting a hole in Paxton’s boat was probably an accident, but not telling him about it was no accident. When you make a mistake, don’t hide it.
Discovering Archaeology
A 2,000-year-old fishing boat was found in the mud of the Sea of Galilee. Crazy, but because of a long drought, parts of the lake bottom were showing for the first time in thousands of years. And there in the mud were the remains of a 26-foot long wood boat, maybe even the same kind of boat Jesus sailed in long ago.
