Words to Treasure
So here is what I say to you. Ask, and it will be given to you. Search, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened to you.
Luke 11:9
Page sat on the cabin porch quietly and patiently. The cabin door opened, and a beautiful woman with long gray hair stepped out on the porch. Cathy stared at Page and shook her head. “Are you going to sit on my porch every morning?”
Page handed her a donut and coffee from the corner store. “You’re the best river kayaker I know. I want to be the best for the Olympics some day.”
Cathy sipped the coffee. “So you’re going to sit on my porch every morning and give me coffee and donuts until I agree to coach you?”
“That’s the plan.” Page smiled sweetly.
“Well,” Cathy sighed with an amused smile, “you proved to me you really want this, and I think you’ll work hard.”
The next morning, Cathy’s and Page’s kayaks floated side by side in a quiet pool of the river. Cathy nodded. “Okay, let me see what you’ve got. I’ll be right behind you.” Page nodded and paddled out to catch the current.
Page’s persistence worked. Sometimes showing people how much you care about something says a lot more than words.
People in Bible Times
Jesus told a story about a man who went to a friend’s house late at night to borrow some bread. He knocked on the door so much that finally his friend got up and gave him what he wanted. Jesus said that knocking on God’s door is okay. Pray often about the same thing because God doesn’t mind. He loves your persistence. (See Luke 11:5 – 10.)
