Without Being Asked

Words to Treasure

A voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, and I love him. I am very pleased with him.”

Matthew 3:17

Lightning flashed like a bright whip across the sky, the wind howled, and the rain blew sideways instead of straight down. The storm had come up fast and hard. Weller and his two dogs were bringing in horses and cows from the east field. The horses were nervous and the cows unhappy. Weller pulled his hat down low and moved slowly so he didn’t scare the animals. His dad appeared from out of the rain.

“You’re already bringing them in. That’s great, Son!”

Weller shouted over the wind. “Sometimes I know what you want me to do without you telling me.”

His dad grinned. “I know. Let’s get the horses in the stable. Then pizza — my treat.” Weller wasn’t going to argue with that idea.

Jesus also knew what to do without his heavenly Father telling him. One day Jesus went to his cousin John to be baptized, because he knew that it was the right thing to do and it was what his heavenly Father wanted. And God was really proud of Jesus for everything he did.
