Shining Through

Words to Treasure

Do you bring in a lamp to put it under a large bowl or a bed? Don’t you put it on its stand?

Mark 4:21

Sandy was going fast down the mountain trail right behind another bicycle racer. Suddenly the girl in front hit a tree root the wrong way, slammed into a tree, and then cartwheeled to the ground. She was seriously hurt. Sandy stopped to help her. The girl’s leg was broken, and she moaned in pain. Other bikers whizzed past, not stopping to help. Sandy quickly pulled the bike off the girl and talked to her. “Don’t move. Help will be coming soon.”

The girl shook her head. “Go! You can catch up to the rest. Don’t stop because of me!”

“There’ll be other races.” Sandy wished she had a jacket to keep the girl warm.

The girl shook her head. “You don’t understand. I was the one who slashed your tires before the race. You can’t help me after what I did!”

Sandy held her hand. “Looks like I am.”

There are lots of ways to be heroes. Jesus wants our kindness to shine like a light so everybody can see.

If you broke your leg in Bible times, they would have used wood splints to hold your bones in place and then wrapped it with stiff bandages. Not too different from today. Wonder if people signed each other’s casts the way we do today? Hey, Moses wrote, “Get better soon!”
