Words to Treasure
He got up and ordered the wind to stop. He said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down. And it was completely calm.
Mark 4:39
Sandy talked to Krista quietly as they waited for help to come. No more bike racers whizzed past, and the woods were very quiet. Krista began to cry both from the pain of her broken leg and emotion. Tears streamed down her face. “I’m never going to be able to ride again. And you’re going to tell on me for sabotaging your bike. My whole life is ruined!” She began to cry harder.
“Ssssh.” Sandy kept holding her hand. “I’m not going to tell on you, and you’ll be fine.” But Krista cried harder and couldn’t catch her breath. “Dear Jesus,” Sandy prayed, “please help Krista today. Help her to be brave and calm until help comes.”
Sometimes we need to ask Jesus to help calm down a situation or even just our thoughts. And that’s totally a right thing to do. After all, Jesus is the Prince of Peace. Sometimes we could really use some of his supernatural panic-kicking peace.

Jesus and his disciples were in a boat when a wild storm hit. The disciples were freaked out, but Jesus slept soundly. Finally he woke up and noticed his panicked disciples and the stormy lake. He got up and ordered the wind and the waves to be quiet and still. And before they could say, “We’re going to drown,” the storm stopped. (See Mark 4:35 – 41.)
