Words to Treasure
We accept good things from God. So we should also accept trouble when he sends it.
Job 2:10
Erin stared down at the fuzzy shark slippers she was wearing. She and her friends had been surfing that morning when a shark attacked. The shark bit Erin’s leg, and now she was in the hospital getting better.
Erin smiled at her friend Lucy. “I should be in church next week — on crutches.”
Lucy was shocked. “You still want to go to church? Erin, God didn’t protect you. You have a huge bite in your leg.”
Erin sipped her juice. “How do you know that? Maybe that shark would have eaten all of me if it wasn’t for God’s protection. And that’s something to be thankful for.” The nurse brought in Erin’s dinner. She peeked under the metal cover and started to laugh. She removed the lid. It was meatloaf shaped like a shark. Her family, the nurses, doctors, and kitchen staff were laughing from the doorway.
Sometimes how we handle hard times is all about how we look at it. Having faith in God no matter what and having a good sense of humor will get you through just about everything.
People in Bible Times
Even when Job was covered in gross, disgusting sores and life was so bad he didn’t want to live, he never once said anything against God. He still loved him and had faith in him. Give that man a big pat on the back — but not too hard. (See Job 2.)
