Words to Treasure
Jonathan said to David, “I’ll do anything you want me to do for you.”
1 Samuel 20:4
People on the dock were watching kids and adults jump off into the water below. Jana climbed up on the railing of the high dock and sat down. “Come on, Jasmine, let’s jump.”
Jasmine wasn’t sure about this. Jana’s dad helped her sit on the railing beside Jana. “I’m not sure, Jana. This is high.”
“Not as tall as the high dive at the pool, and you’ve jumped off that.” Jana held out her hand. “We can jump together. Do you trust me?”
Jasmine took her hand, and she counted for them. “One, two, three, GO!” They both jumped off the dock hand-in-hand. Jasmine’s long ponytail flowed behind her. They hit the water with a big splash. The crowd cheered, and Jana’s parents took a photograph. The two friends swam to the lower dock and climbed out. Jasmine brushed her wet hair from her face. “Let’s do it again!”
Do you have a friend you can trust like that? If you have one friend you can trust and go on adventures with, then you’re rich where it counts. That’s the way best friends David and Jonathan were in the Bible.
Most ancient cultures taught their kids how to swim. Swimming was an important part of a soldier’s training. In ancient Greece if you wanted to upset a guy you made fun of the way he ran or swam.
