Words to Treasure
The LORD your God has blessed you in everything your hands have done. He watched over you when you traveled through that huge desert. For these 40 years the LORD your God has been with you.
Deuteronomy 2:7
Deacon, Angus, and Timothy were picking blackberries as they walked along the forest trail. After eating a gazillion, they began to throw berries at each other. They were dodging between trees and hiding behind rocks because it was an all-out blackberry battle zone.
Angus stopped and got a funny feeling. “Do you guys know where we are?” Angus climbed a rock to look for the trail. They were really lost. He took off his backpack. “Before we get even more lost . . .” He pulled out a trail map and his compass. He studied the map. “Okay, we’re here. But we should go west along Goat Valley Trail.” Angus led the way back on track.
Sometimes we don’t know we’re going the wrong way or doing the wrong things until we’re really lost. The Bible is kind of like a map, because it gives us directions to follow and helps us stay on the right path.

A young king named Josiah made a really important discovery. While fixing up the temple, they found an old scroll that had God’s laws written on it. When the young king read the laws, he tore his clothes and wept with sadness because he knew his people were doing wrong things. God’s laws had been forgotten. Right away, Josiah set about making things right with God. (See 2 Chronicles 34 – 35.)
