Words to Treasure
But Ruth replied, “Don’t try to make me leave you and go back. Where you go I’ll go. Where you stay I’ll stay.”
Ruth 1:16
Sara walked around the old go-cart she had bought. It wasn’t much to look at, because she didn’t have a lot of money. It was going to take a ton of work to get it running before racing season. Her friend Hayden sat on an old tire in the garage. Sara rubbed at the rust and hoped it wasn’t too deep. “I’m not going to get this fixed up in time.”
“Sure you are.” Hayden was always encouraging, even if he didn’t know what he was talking about.
“No, I’m not.” Sara tried to start the engine, but nothing happened.
“You are, because I’m going to help you. Every afternoon until race day.”
Sara passed him a root beer. “Hayden, I can’t ask you to do that. Even if we get it running and looking good, I may not win anyway.”
Hayden kicked a tire. “I know. I don’t care about winning. I care that you care so much. I’m your friend, and that’s what friends do.”
Give Hayden a big cheer, handshake, slap on the back, and . . . let’s go all out and give him a parade! He’s exactly the loyal, I’ll-go-where-you-go-and-I-don’t-care-what-happens kind of friend to have. Can we clone that guy?
