Words to Treasure
He said to me, “You are my son. Today I have become your father.”
Psalm 2:7
Cameron walked into the strange house and wondered how long he’d be here. Would this ever feel like home? His new foster parents hugged him and took his suitcase. They looked nice, but were they the parents he’d been praying for? The family that would love him and take care of him for a long, long time?
They led him to his bedroom. When they opened the door he froze. The entire room was painted like the night sky and covered in space posters. Constellations, planets, and galaxies filled the room. A telescope pointed out the window. Cameron didn’t know what to say. He’d never had a room like this before. His new foster mom put her arm around his shoulder. “We heard you were interested in everything about space.”
His new dad led him to the telescope. “I’m not sure if this is the right kind. We can take it back if it’s not what you want.” Cameron looked around at the room that was made just for him.
In Bible times, it wasn’t uncommon for children to be sent away from home when they were very young to learn a job. In the Bible, a boy named Samuel went to live with a priest named Eli and his family. Samuel did odd jobs and took religious lessons from Eli. Sometimes his mother visited him, because she loved him very much.
