Words to Treasure
“Anyone who takes the humble position of this child is the most important in the kingdom of heaven.”
Matthew 18:4
Seven-year-old Haley thought and thought about it. Finally she walked up to Pastor Owen. “Pastor Owen, can I talk to you about something I think would be good for our church?”
“Sure, Haley. What’s up?” Pastor Owen smiled.
“Have a seat.” Haley pointed to some chairs. “Not everybody has family to celebrate their birthdays with. I think every week we should buy some flowers and hand them out to everybody who’s having a birthday that week. That way they won’t feel so lonely. Birthdays are important, you know.”
Pastor Owen thought about it. “That would be nice, Haley. If your parents want to help you, I can give you money each week, and you can buy some flowers to hand out each Sunday.”
This time Haley thought about it. “Okay. I’ll be in charge of birthday flowers.”
Sometimes church can seem like a grown-up world. Adults, step back and make some room for kids. Kids are smart and creative, and they hear from God too. If you’ve got an idea for church, go talk about it.
People in Bible Times
Young Samuel was sleeping in God’s temple outside the inner chamber when God called to him three times. Now God didn’t often talk directly to people, so this was really special. God gave Samuel a very important mission. Even though he was just a kid, Samuel did what he was told. He kept listening to God and became one of the Bible’s greatest prophets.
