Words to Treasure
But reach out your hand and strike down everything he has. Then I’m sure he will speak evil things against you.
Job 1:11
A big red SOLD sign hung in their boat window. Abby was helping her dad clean the boat for the new owners. She loved this boat, but she wouldn’t let her dad see her sadness. He had been laid off from work, and they couldn’t afford to keep the boat. She understood how hard this was for him. This had been his dream boat.
“It’s okay, Dad.” Abby tried to cheer him up. “Maybe our next boat will be even nicer than this one. You’ll get a new job soon. Besides a boat’s just stuff. No big deal.” Her father gave her a sad little smile and went back to cleaning the deck.
It doesn’t seem fair when hard things like losing a job, getting sick, or a death in the family happen. Bad things shouldn’t happen to good people. Having a good attitude and still doing things God’s way through hard times is really the biggest test of our lives. Abby’s right. Hard times don’t last forever, and good times could be right around the corner. Trust God.

A man named Job had a good life and loved God. But Satan argued that Job only loved God because God gave him good things. “Make Job’s life unhappy, and he won’t love you anymore,” Satan teased. So God and Satan decided to put Job’s love to the test. (See Job 1.)
