Words to Treasure
Love is patient. Love is kind. It does not want what belongs to others.
1 Corinthians 13:4
Sebastian stroked his dog. He didn’t ever want to let go. The other family members waited quietly for his decision. It wasn’t fair, because the animal shelter said that Henry was his dog. He had been his dog for five months! And now these people were saying that Henry was their dog. They had lost him in a park. This wasn’t fair! He had done everything right to adopt Henry.
But Sebastian couldn’t ignore how excited Henry was to see this family. Henry answered when they called him “Jett.” He did tricks for them that Sebastian didn’t even know he could do. He could see that Henry loved them and they loved Henry. This so stunk! Sebastian’s mom touched his arm gently, knowing how hard this was.
Sebastian walked over to the girl and placed Henry — or Jett — into her arms. This wasn’t about how he felt; it was about what was best for Henry. It was about doing the right thing even though it hurt.
Loving someone or something sometimes means caring more about what’s good for them than what feels good for you.
Did You Know?
Did you know this? When two women both claimed to be the rightful mother of a baby, King Solomon ordered the baby cut in two, knowing that the real mother would give away her child first rather than see it harmed. The woman who gave her baby to the other woman was the true mother. The problem was solved with no bloodshed.
