Mud Slinging

Words to Treasure

Kind words are like honey. They are sweet to the spirit and bring healing to the body.

Proverbs 16:24

This was mud volleyball at its absolute best. It was a sunny day and the farmer’s field was hosed down to make the thickest, deepest mud You could want. The area schools were having a mud volleyball tournament. All the players were completely covered in mud because they were diving and falling in the oozing ground. It was great!

If Hillary’s team won this game, they would move up to second place and then maybe first. Everybody was tense as the other team was ready to serve the winning ball. The mud-covered ball skimmed over the net. Suzy dove for it but missed and landed face down in the ooze. The other team jumped up and down! They had won. Suzy sat up, wiping mud from her face. She was upset. Hillary sat down in the mud beside her friend. “Nobody could have gotten that serve. It was an impossible return. We came in third out of fifteen schools. All because of your rocket serves.” Suzy flopped down in the mud and began to wave her arms and legs back and forth.

“What are you doing?” asked a puzzled Hillary.

Suzy giggled. “Mud angels. Try it.” Soon the entire third-place team was making mud angels and having a good time.

Sometimes saying the right and kind thing makes for moments you never forget.

Did You Know?

Did you know that many homes in ancient Israel were made out of mud bricks? Unfortunately, when it rained they leaked a lot.
