Treetop Wisdom

Words to Treasure

A man who loves wisdom makes his father glad.

Proverbs 29:3

Grandpa popped his head up in the tree fort and looked around. Joel quickly tucked something under the old rug. But Grandpa was pretty quick with stuff like that. He pulled himself up into the fort and carefully sat on the most secure part of the floor.

“You’ve been up here a long time. What’s up?”

Joel shrugged. “Nothing much . . . you know, stuff.”

Grandpa pulled two cold drinks from his pockets. “Here.” Grandpa purposely put his hand down on the bump in the carpet. “What’s under here?”

“Grandpa!” Joel protested.

Grandpa pulled out a Bible. He looked both puzzled and pleased at the same time.

Joel took the Bible back. “You’re not going to make fun of me, are you?”

“Nope,” Grandpa promised.

“Sometimes a guy just needs privacy. You know, for personal stuff. A guy doesn’t need to advertise around the entire neighborhood that he reads the Bible.”

“You’re right,” agreed his grandpa. “I’m making dinner in about an hour.” Slowly and carefully the old man climbed back down the tree with a proud smile on his face.

Reading the Bible can be a very personal time you may not want to share with the world. And that’s okay.

People in Bible Times

Jesus often went away by himself to pray and think about God. He wasn’t ignoring people or being secretive. He just wanted to spend some quiet time with his heavenly Father.
