Truth

Words to Treasure

A dishonest witness will be punished. And those who pour out lies will not go free.

Proverbs 19:5

It was only an exhibition chess tournament, and Fran wasn’t too worried about it. It was good practice, and it was a sunny afternoon in the park, with a picnic after. Ryan was losing the game and wasn’t happy about it. He waved his hand for an official. Mrs. Noble came over.

Ryan pointed at Fran. “She cheated. She touched a piece and didn’t move it.”

“I did not!” Fran was completely shocked and surprised. She hadn’t gone anywhere near touching a piece. Fran knew she hadn’t cheated. But she also knew that if she was accused of cheating, it would damage her reputation as a good and honest player.

The woman whispered, “Sorry, Ryan, I’ve been watching this game, and I didn’t see her touch a piece like that. Be very, very careful about making claims against other players. You could be the big loser.”

Ryan thought about it. “Maybe I was mistaken.”

Being dishonest to get ahead is never a smart move.

Live It!

It can be very tempting to say one little lie. But remember, if people discover you lied, they will never trust you again. They will always doubt what you say. They will be disappointed, hurt, angry, and lose a ton of respect for you. You may even lose friendships. A little lie can be the start of big problems. No fooling or lying.
