Words to Treasure
Can anyone capture it by its eyes? Can anyone trap it and poke a hole through its nose?
Job 40: 24
Polly felt tiny looking up at the gigantic bones in the history museum. Even her dad seemed small when standing next to it. The sharp teeth and the huge claws screamed dangerous with a capital D. “Dad?”
“Hmmm?” He was reading the sign in front of the skeleton.
“Are there dinosaurs in the Bible?”
“That’s a very interesting question.” Her dad pulled out his phone and pulled up a Bible passage from the Book of Job (40:15 – 16).
Look at Behemoth. It is a huge animal. I made both of you. It eats grass like an ox. Look at the strength it has in its hips! What power it has in the muscles of its stomach! Its tail sways back and forth like a cedar tree. The tendons of its thighs are close together. Its bones are like tubes made out of bronze. Its legs are like rods made out of iron. It ranks first among my works.
“What do you think?” her dad asked.
Molly looked back at the bones above her. “It sounds like a dinosaur, doesn’t it? And there aren’t any Behemoths around now.”
Whether a Behemoth was a dinosaur or not is a question that Bible researchers are trying to figure out. It may be one of those mysteries we’ll never solve. Whether you say yes or no. God created the Behemoth to be one amazing creature. Hey, just like you.
Did You Know?
Did you know the word Behemoth means “beast,” and some even say it means something like “colossal beast”?
