The Hook

Words to Treasure

Manasseh prayed to him. When he did, the LORD felt sorry for him. He answered his prayer. The LORD brought Manasseh back to Jerusalem and his kingdom.

2 Chronicles 33:13

Is that all the candy you took? If it is, I’ll let you off with a warning.” The security guard for the store stared with big eyes at the boys. Aaron and Melker sat in hard metal chairs in the back office. The boys looked at each other sheepishly and pulled more candy from different pockets. They placed it on the table. The security guard shook his head sadly. “Okay, I’m going to give you one more chance.” He pulled out two sheets of paper and two pencils. “I want you both to write me an essay on why I shouldn’t call the police. Tell my why you deserve a second chance. Make it good, boys. I’ll be back in an hour.”

The clock ticked loudly as the boys wrote the most important letter of their kid lives to Mr. Security Officer. Would they get a second chance?

King Manasseh of Judah had done so many wrong things that finally God allowed him to be taken captive by the mighty Assyrians. They put him in prison, in chains, and put a hook in his nose. But the nose hook wasn’t a fashion thing. Manasseh called out to God asking for forgiveness and help. He was a changed man. God believed him and helped him return to Jerusalem.

Live It!

If you were Aaron and Melker, what would you have written to convince the security guard to give you a second chance?
