Too Much of a Good Thing

Words to Treasure

I knew how stubborn you were. Your neck muscles were as unbending as iron. Your forehead was as hard as bronze.

Isaiah 48:4

The rollercoaster came to a stop. Scott got out, but his little sister Ruby stayed in her seat. “Come on, Ruby.” Scott waited for her.

“I don’t want to get out. I’m staying right here. I want more rides.”

Scott hated when his sister got like this. “Ruby, stop being stubborn. Get off the ride. Everybody is waiting.”

“Nope.” She wouldn’t budge.

“Fine!” Scott walked over to the ride attendant. “Here’s a roll of tickets. Let her ride as often as she wants.” The man nodded.

Scott waited as Ruby rode the rollercoaster over and over. When she got off, she didn’t look so good. She rushed over to a trashcan and threw up. Scott wasn’t feeling sorry for her. She looked up at him with sick eyes. “Why didn’t you stop me?”

“Some things you have to learn for yourself. Do you want lunch?”

She held her stomach. “I never want to eat again.”

Ruby’s stubbornness had gotten the better of her. She soon learned that too much of a good thing isn’t a good thing.

Discovering Archaeology

The Bible describes a stubborn person like Ruby as being like iron. People have been making things out of iron for 5,000 years, but it’s really hard to find those ancient iron objects. Why? When iron’s left outside, what happens? It rusts! After thousands of years, iron objects completely rust away. Today iron is still the most common and most useful metal in the world.
