Words to Treasure
The king said to Daniel, “I’m sure your God is the greatest God of all. He is the Lord of kings. He explains mysteries. That’s why you were able to explain the mystery of my dream.”
Daniel 2:47
Abigail loved the old Smith house with the stained-glass windows and the tall gabled roof. She was sad that the city was going to bulldoze it down. The Historical Society tried to buy the house, but they didn’t have enough money. Now it would be gone. She wished there was something she could do. But the city had made their decision, and she was just a kid.
Abigail talked to her parents about it over dinner. “What do you like about the house?” asked her dad.
She toyed with her food. “I like to imagine what it would have been like all new. Something that beautiful shouldn’t be destroyed just because it’s old.”
Her mother played with her potatoes as well. “Sweetie, unfortunately not everybody feels the way you do. It’s a real shame. I like old houses too.”
That night, Abigail talked to God about it and prayed for some way to save the house. Then she went to sleep.
When you talk to God about something, he does listen, and sometimes his answers will amaze everybody.
People in Bible Times
King Nebuchadnezzar had a wild dream and wanted his wise guys to explain the dream. But nobody could figure it out. This bugged him so much that he ordered all the wise guys in his kingdom killed. This would, of course, include Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. When Daniel found out, he prayed for God’s help. (See Daniel 2.)
