Seriously Messed Up

Words to Treasure

“Blessed are those whose sins are taken away. Blessed is the person whose sin the Lord never counts against them.”

Romans 4:7-8

Doug stuck his hand under the water tap again, but his hand still hurt like crazy. The burn was really bad. His parents had warned him not to fool around with fireworks. But he did, and now everything was seriously messed up. His mom knocked on the door. “Are you okay in there?” Doug opened the door a crack and shoved his hand out. He heard his mother exhale. “Oh, Doug! Don’t tell me! Fire-works.”

Doug fought back tears of pain. “Yeah.”

Doug’s troubles started when he didn’t listen to his parents. Our troubles can start when we don’t listen to God. That’s called sin. Sin is behaving in ways that don’t go along with how God wants us to be. First off, God is perfect and right all the time. God is never ever sinful. Nobody on earth is perfect or sin-free like God. We all fail at being perfectly good all the time. But we can admit our sins to Jesus and ask for forgiveness. Jesus forgives all our past, present, and future sins or wrongs. When that happens, perfect God doesn’t see our sins, he just sees us. And he loves what he sees.

Live It!

Jesus’ forgiveness for all our future sins isn’t some kind of a get-out-of-jail-free card so we can do wrong things whenever we want. That’s not the point. The point is wanting to do right things that please God now and in the future.
