Words to Treasure

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.

Genesis 1:1

The lava flowed down across the ground like a black blob monster. Cracks oozed red-hot lava. It was a slow sluggish lava that inched across the ground. Martin’s dad was taking pictures of it for a science magazine. Martin watched through binoculars as plants in front of the lava burst into flames. He had never seen a real volcano before. Slow as it was, this lava was destroying everything in its path. His dad told him lava was really hot, between 1300 and 1650 degrees Fahrenheit. The hottest the kitchen oven could get was 550 degrees Fahrenheit, and that was hot. Nothing was going to stop this lava flow.

Despite the damage volcanoes do, they’re good for the world. They create mountains, islands, and soil for plants, and they put important gases and moisture into the air. God designed everything for a purpose and a reason. Even the position of our planet in the galaxy is not too far from or too close to the sun so that we have just the right amount of light and heat for a world full of living things. It’s all in his plan.

Live It!

Hey! Take some time to look at the world around you. Look at how animals or plants are designed. It’s amazing! Compare how things are different or the same. How is a butterfly the same or different from a whale? What do lizards have in common with birds? Nature by God’s design is a world where everything is important and connected together.
