Words to Treasure
Praise the Lord, you angels of his. Praise him, you mighty ones who carry out his orders and obey his word.
Psalm 103:2
Principal O’Neil stared at the pile of snow and ice blocking the school’s front door. He looked around at the students responsible for this prank. “So whose idea was this?”
Angelica fidgeted. It had seemed like a funny idea last night, but now it wasn’t so funny. She stepped forward. “It was me. It was my idea to block the door with snow.”
Mr. O’Neil raised his eyebrow. “Angelica? Not very angelic of you was it? You and your partners in crime can spend the morning chipping away at this blockade of ice and snow so we can use the front doors.” Angelica nodded and sighed. This was not the way to start the new year. She’d try to do better.
If Angelica is no angel, what is a real angel? We do know from the Bible that angels are spiritual heavenly beings, but it isn’t very clear what they look like. Angels are cool, but we’re not to worship them. Angels are God’s messengers, helpers, and worshipers in heaven. Angels help us understand that God loves us. So, what does it mean to be angelic? If you are helpful and protective of others and you worship God, you may be called an angel.
Did You Know?
Did you know that two angels are mentioned by name in the Bible? One is Michael, who appears like a warrior angel. The other is Gabriel, who acts as God’s messenger.
