Words to Treasure
But the fruit the Holy Spirit produces is love, joy and peace. It is being patient, kind and good.
Galatians 5:22
Henry got out of the car and couldn’t believe all the people gathered to do the Buddy Walk. His dad helped his brother Joshua out of the car. Joshua had Down syndrome, a condition he was born with. It means that even though he was older than Henry, sometimes Joshua acted younger. Sometimes Joshua had a harder time learning things, but he was the guy with a million jokes to tell, and he always seemed to know what Henry was feeling. If Henry was having a bad day, Joshua would bring him a soft drink and they would talk. He was the best brother.
Joshua waved at some friends he knew. “Can we walk with Ruth and BJ?” Joshua asked. Their dad nodded. Joshua ran over. “I have a new joke. You’re going to laugh sooo hard.” Joshua stopped suddenly and turned. “Henry, you can walk with us. You don’t have to walk alone.”
Joshua knows something that some people have a hard time understanding. Everybody wants to feel liked and accepted. Everybody should feel liked and accepted. This world would a better and wiser place if everybody was as kind as Joshua and told more jokes.
Live It!
Kindness and acceptance are very powerful things. You and your friends can look for ways to do random acts of kindness at school, church, or in your neighborhood. Little things make people feel good and accepted. Spread kindness around.
