Who Is the Devil?

Words to Treasure

The God who gives peace will soon crush Satan under your feet.

Romans 16:20

The devil looked at Bill, and Bill looked right back. He was pretty ugly. “I know you,” Bill said as he took a closer look at the rubber mask. “You’ve been to our house before.”

The devil shrugged, took off his mask, and gave Bill his change. “It’s me, Tom. Cool mask, huh?”

Bill took his purchase. “Isn’t the devil a bad guy? I’d rather be a good guy.” Halloween was such a weirdo holiday.

The name Satan means “adversary or enemy.” The Bible tells us the devil was an angel created by God. When he sinned, God threw him down to earth and he became a fallen angel. Since then, Satan (also called the devil) has been plotting against God at every turn. He’s basically at war with God and would like people to believe he has power equal to Jesus and God. But that isn’t true. Satan will use tricks to lead people away from God. But the important thing to remember is that God has more power and control, and he is protecting you. Satan can plan all he wants, but Jesus is watching over you every minute of every day.

People in Bible Times

Jesus was teaching in a synagogue when a man controlled by a demon started to shout at him. Jesus spoke firmly to the evil spirit and demanded he be quiet and leave the man alone. The demon had to obey; people were amazed by Jesus. That’s because nothing is more powerful than God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit! (See Luke 4:33 – 37.)
