Words to Treasure
Love never fails.
1 Corinthians 13:8
Ricky was snooping in the attic for hidden early Christmas presents. It was totally wrong but he couldn’t resist just a quick check. Surprises were for little kids. He liked to know what he was getting. Ricky pulled out a metal box that was pushed way under an old dresser. Inside were a bunch of papers and photographs. He took out a piece of paper and read it. This was a surprise Ricky wasn’t counting on. He was adopted. His parents weren’t his real parents. He was a fake kid.
Rick isn’t a fake kid, and his parents are real. They had wanted to be parents very much but couldn’t have a baby of their own. So they prayed that God would give them a baby a different way. God gave them Ricky through adoption. Loving somebody isn’t about sharing DNA or genetics. Your real family is the one you care about and live with every day. So it doesn’t really matter whether you share DNA with your parents, grandparents, uncles or aunts, or foster parents. Love is in living together and sharing everything — that’s as real as it gets.
