Words to Treasure
The LORD makes secure the footsteps of the person who delights in him. Even if that person trips, he won’t fall. The LORD’s hand takes good care of him.
Psalm 37:23-24
Trevor knew that he went after the ball too hard and had accidentally pushed an opposing player to the ground. Even though Trevor had a breakaway, he passed the soccer ball to one of his teammates, stopped, and offered his hand to the player. “Sorry.”
The other player looked surprised. “Really?”
Trevor gave him a big smile. “Sure.” He helped the other player up, and they shook hands. They both continued to play a great game of soccer. No hard feelings. After the game, the other player thanked Trevor for his sportsmanship. Then they talked and found out they lived in the same neighborhood. This could be the start of a beautiful friendship — even if they did play on opposing teams.
Jesus’ younger brother James wrote, “Those who make peace plant it like a seed. They will harvest a crop of right living” (James 3:18). Peace or making friends should always be your first and best answer.
