Words to Treasure
“The angels will come. They will separate the people who did what is wrong from those who did what is right.”
Matthew 13:49
Shelley, Reed, and Justin sat watching the other kids mess around with their bows and arrows, trying to shoot at the targets.
A big voice boomed, “FREEZE!” The entire archery class froze and faced their instructor. Mr. Rayner walked down the row of archers and pointed at kids. “You go stand over there. You too. And you and you.” He stopped and winked at Shelley, Reed, and Justin. “You three stay where you are.” He turned to the group gathered beside the shooting line. “What did I say before I left the range?”
One guilty looking boy answered. “You said not to do anything until you got back.”
Mr. Rayner crossed his arms. “And what were you doing?”
“Shooting my arrows at the target.”
Mr. Rayner didn’t look happy. “Okay, the people who listened to my instructions will get to take their lesson. The rest of you can go sit on the wall and watch. Breaking my rules isn’t a good idea.”
Doing the right thing gets big rewards. That’s the same in heaven! When you do right things, God wants to reward you.
In Bible times, bow and arrows were used both for hunting and war. Ancient archers had to have lots of muscle strength. If you want to experience how hard it is, go to an archery club and see how many times you can shoot a bow before you’re pretty tired.
