Words to Treasure
“All right,” Deborah said. “I’ll go with you. But because of the way you are doing this, you won’t receive any honor. Instead, the Lord will hand Sisera over to a woman.”
Judges 4:9
The kids stared at the most perfect sledding hill in the world. Best of all, there was nothing at the bottom to crash into. The only problem was it was Mr. Rex Calder’s property. He didn’t like anybody or anything — except his seven dogs. And everybody knew they were all trained to eat kids. Olivia headed toward the house with her sled dragging behind her.
Landon ran after her. “Where are you going?”
“To ask Mr. Calder if we can sled down his hill.”
Landon grabbed her sleeve. “Are you crazy?”
Olivia marched up to the porch and knocked on the door. Mr. Calder opened it. They talked, and then he slammed the door. She walked back to the gate.
“Told you,” Landon smirked.
“We can sled on one condition. That we let his dogs play with us for the exercise.” Olivia smirked back. Suddenly seven dogs came running toward them with tails wagging.
Sometimes you just have to do what you think is right. Olivia ignored all the gossip about Mr. Calder. Just like warrior hero Deborah who fought the Canaanites when everybody else thought they shouldn’t. She did, and she won.
Did You Know?
Did you know Deborah led the army to defeat Sisera’s army and his 900 chariots?
