Time Flies?

Words to Treasure

“Sun, stand still over Gibeon. And you, moon, stand still over the Valley of Aijalon.” So the sun stood still. The moon stopped. They didn’t move again until the nation won the battle over its enemies.

Joshua 10:12 – 13

Jason flopped down on the sofa, exhausted. His mom and dad joined him with an exhausted sigh. “Thanks, Mom and Dad. That was the sweetest party ever. Man, did it go by fast,” Jason thought about that. “How come time does weird things? I mean, why does time go by super-fast when you’re having fun, but other times it can seem sooo slow? Like in math class.”

His dad and mom glanced at each other and laughed. His dad explained, “Time doesn’t change speeds. When we have fun, we don’t notice time passing because we’re so busy. When we’re bored, we notice time more. But there was that one time. . .”

“What time?”

“When time stood still.”

“Tell me.” Jason leaned forward.

“Well,” his dad continued. “God made time, right? But one day, he decided to stop time for a very important reason . . .”

A warrior leader named Joshua was fighting a really important battle. But the day was ending and soon it would be too dark to fight. Joshua asked God for more daylight. More time to win the battle. God stopped the sun and moon giving Joshua more time to win the day. That was the only day where time ever stood still. (See Joshua 10)
