Just My Parents

Words to Treasure

Anyone who steals from his parents and says, “It’s not wrong,” is just like a man who destroys.

Proverbs 28:24

Piper, Bethany, and Lillian were eating an entire box of sugar cereal on the way home from the movies. They were throwing the pieces into the air and catching them in their mouths. A car pulled up beside them. It was Piper’s dad, and he looked fairly unhappy as he rolled down the window. “Piper, you told me that you didn’t have enough money to go to the movies.”

Suddenly Piper was looking kind of guilty. “Well . . . I borrowed some money.”

“From whom?” questioned her dad.

Piper suddenly looked very guilty. “From Mom’s purse.”

“Did you ask her first?”

“No, not really.” Rapidly this was turning out to be not such a good day after all.

“I’m sorry, girls.” Piper’s dad opened the door for his daughter to get in the car. “Piper has to go home now.”

Actually, Piper has to go home to face the music. Taking money from your parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, or friends without permission is stealing. It may not seem like stealing, but yes, it is stealing. So keep your hands off other people’s money unless you’re given the okay.
