Words to Treasure
Lord, when I bring a matter to you, you always do what is right.
Jeremiah 12:1
Tony Lyons walked up on the stage and accepted his Academic Achievement Award. He smiled broadly at the audience of parents and students. Everybody clapped as he left the stage.
Daniel slumped in his chair. This is so cheap, he thought to himself. Tony has the worst attitude in the school. He’s rude and makes everybody around him feel small. Am I missing something or is this truly lame that he gets an award?
Daniel held his smaller Athletic Award and thought about how hard he had worked to earn this award. Then, he got the best thought. He couldn’t control what other people did, but he could control what he did. Daniel had joined basketball, football, and the swim team. He had played fair, and people respected him. He always tried to do what was right. That’s the biggest reward of all. He knew his actions honored God. That made him smile.
Live It!
Jeremiah had those same thoughts thousands of years ago. And he talked to God about them. “But now I would like to speak with you about whether you are being fair. Why are sinful people successful? Why do those who can’t be trusted have an easy life?” (Jeremiah 12:1).
Do you ever wonder stuff like that? Why does it seem like doing wrong gets people good things? Stop wondering, because whether you do right is all that matters. Having God’s respect is the most important thing in life.
